Trailhead does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Trailhead may use limited trip or start-area context to show clearly labelled partner booking offers. We disclose information only to service providers that operate Trailhead or to an external service when you choose its feature.
Email address, username, password hash, Trailhead user ID, and, when you choose Google or Apple sign-in, the verified email and provider account identifier. Optional profile data can include a display name, camping preferences, vehicle or rig details, referral status, and prize or payout workflow status.
With device permission, Trailhead processes approximate or precise location, map viewport, route endpoints, and selected places to show maps, nearby results, weather and land layers, build routes, navigate, and trigger downloaded Original stories. Trailhead does not put raw coordinates or traveled routes into product analytics.
Saved trips, routes, stops, notes, packing lists, saved places, ratings, comments, reports, edits, optional photos, support messages and screenshots, planner or Co-Pilot chat history, subscription and credit history, preferred prize-payout method label and status, purchase receipts, push tokens, and communication preferences. An explicitly reviewed trail recording may also include its selected activity, elapsed time, distance and route geometry. Trailhead does not receive or store full payment-card, bank, PayPal, or Cash App credentials.
If you start Co-Pilot voice assistant, microphone audio and the context needed for your request are sent to OpenAI so the assistant can respond. Trailhead does not keep the raw audio in your account, but OpenAI may temporarily retain API inputs for abuse monitoring under its API data-retention terms. The resulting transcript and requested map or trip action may remain in your account history until you remove it or delete your account. Microphone access is optional and stops when you close or cancel Co-Pilot.
Trailhead processes a small set of aggregate app events plus fixed error codes, stack frames, platform, app/build/runtime/update version, and static performance measurements. Aggregate product events do not contain an account identifier or stable session identifier. Separate first-party operational audit records may associate an account with a fixed event type and the minimum identifiers needed to complete or investigate a purchase, support request, community report, security event, or administrator action. They are not used to build advertising audiences. Sentry Session Replay is disabled. Personal search text, support-message content, payout information, raw coordinates, traveled routes, and user-provided photos or files are excluded from Trailhead analytics and Sentry events.
We use this information to operate accounts; provide maps, Search, navigation, planning, offline downloads and Originals; personalize requested planning features; process purchases and credits; deliver notifications and support; protect the service; fix crashes; measure reliability; and show clearly labelled partner booking offers that fit the current trip or start area. We do not sell personal information or use private support messages, payout information, personal search text, account identity, or raw traveled routes for advertising.
Foreground location supports the map, nearby places, route building and navigation. Trailhead continues location processing in the background only after you explicitly start navigation, a Trailhead Original, or trail recording so the active feature can continue after the phone is locked or another app is open. Location use stops when you end that feature. Trail recording remains private on your device unless you explicitly save, export, or submit it. You can change permission in device Settings.
Apple, Google Play, Stripe, PayPal, Cash App, or a bank handles credentials in the applicable approved purchase or prize flow. Trailhead stores only purchase, entitlement, credit-ledger, payout-method label, and workflow status needed to provide the service or complete an award. Never send payout credentials in support chat.
Account and saved content remain while your account is active or until you delete the item. Operational community reports use the expiry shown by that feature; comments, ratings, edits, trips and support records are not covered by a short report-expiry window. Purchase, credit-ledger, fraud-prevention, security, and legal records may be retained only as required for those purposes.
Aggregate product measurements and first-party operational audit events are normally removed after 90 days. Push campaign delivery history is also limited to 90 days and does not retain a reusable push token.
You can remove supported saved content without deleting your account, or permanently delete the account after fresh password, Google, or Apple reauthentication. See the data deletion page and account deletion page.
Trailhead does not sell personal data or provide it to these providers to build third-party advertising profiles. The limited contextual partner offers are described above. Trailhead 1.0.12 and later use first-party gettrailhead.app referral links and manual referral codes rather than a native third-party attribution SDK. An older installed build may still contain Branch for referral-link attribution; that build can send install, app-open, referrer, and device-level data to Branch, but Trailhead does not send Branch account identity, location, personal search text, support content, or purchase events. Updating to 1.0.12 or later removes that SDK.
You can change location, microphone, photo and notification permissions in device Settings; leave support diagnostic consent off; use manual referral codes; remove saved content; and delete your account. Production external traffic uses HTTPS encryption. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Trailhead is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy as Trailhead or its providers change. The updated date will appear at the top of this page.
